Morgan Hill Woman and Dog died in crash

A woman who died along with her dog in a crash in Gilroy was identified Monday as Janice Settle, who was 64 and lived in Morgan Hill.

Settle died after her 2006 Nissan Altima was T-boned at an intersection by a man driving a 1993 Dodge Dakota on Friday at 2:50 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.

The front of the Dakota hit the left side of Settle's car at a four-way stop at Buena Vista Avenue and No Name Uno Road, just next to Highway 101, the CHP said. Both Settle and the driver of the Dakota, 24-year-old Madera resident Roman Becerra, were wearing their seatbelts.

When paramedics arrived, Settle was unresponsive and taken to Regional Medical Center, where she died three hours after the crash. Her dog, which was in the backseat, later died at the scene.

Becerra was not injured. The CHP said it is investigating the cause of the crash, although drugs and alcohol are not a factor.
