Man Dies When Car Plows into SUV

A 23-year-old Sacramento area man died early Monday in Half Moon Bay after a fiery collision that packed enough wallop to toss an SUV 150 feet from where it was parked, police said.

The man, whose name was not released, plowed his 1991 Honda Civic into a 2000 Honda Passport parked on the 400 block of Kelly Avenue around 3:25 a.m., according to San Mateo County Sheriff's Sgt. Jim Gilletti. The driver was rushed to Stanford hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police said the Civic hit with sufficient power to throw the Passport 150 feet down the road. The man's car then burst into flames and onlookers pulled him from the vehicle. When police arrived they found him on the sidewalk. Police didn't say how fast the man was going or whether drugs and alcohol were a factor in the crash.
