Were you injured in San Francisco County?

The City of San Francisco and the County of San Francisco are synonymous with each other. Officially known as the City and County of San Francisco, it is the only city and county in the state that are consolidated together. It is the second most densely populated area in the U.S. after New York City and is the fourteenth most populated city in the country. As of the 2010 Census, there were 805,235 people living in the city-county. When the entire San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland area is taken into consideration, the population soars to 7.6 million.

As to the history of the city, San Francisco was founded in 1776. Named after Saint Francis, the city started when settlers from Spain began a fort where the Golden Gate Bridge now lies. When the Gold Rush began in the mid-1800s, the population of the area skyrocketed. In one year, the population had grown from 1,000 to 25,000. In 1906, a huge earth and fire destroyed most of the city. Author Jack London stated about the event, "Not in history has a modern imperial city been so completely destroyed. San Francisco is gone." It took nine years to rebuild the city and it is now a world finance center and top tourist destination.

The population density of the city is 17,160 per square mile. Approximately 48.5% of the population is White, 33% Asian, 15% Hispanic, and 6% African American. Numbers show that 13% of the population is under the age of 18, 9.6% are between the ages of 18 and 24, 37% are aged 25 to 44, 25% are 45 to 64, and 13% are over the age of 65.
