Waste Management Employee Dies in Jobsite Accident

A 66-year old Waste Management employee died after being struck by a heavy piece of equipment at a transfer station in San Leandro. The 13-year employee, later identified as Evangelina Macias worked in the material recovery department at the transfer station, located at 2615 Davis Street in San Leandro.

Accident on Highway 25

An 18-year-old driver involved in a major accident on Highway 25 and Wright Road in Hollister has passed away. On the day of the accident, the teen attempted to turn from Wright Road onto Highway 25. He was T-boned by another vehicle traveling southbound on Highway 25. The impact smashed in the teen's front passenger seat. CHP found him unconscious behind the wheel. The other vehicle was driven by a 27-year old mother, who had her children with her at the time of the accident. It was said that she was unable to stop in time in order to avoid the collision.

Johnson & Johnson Reserve $600 Million of Second Quarter Earnings for Settlement

The pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson has set aside $600 million in anticipation of a possible settlement. The plaintiffs have alleged that Johnson & Johnson gave kickbacks to nursing homes that would purchase the Johnson & Johnson anti-psychotic medications, Risperdal and Invega as well as the respiratory drug Natrector. It is speculated that the $600 million is being used to finance a $2.2 billion dollar settlement.
