A scam artist purporting to represent “Sunnyvale court” has been calling Santa Clara County residents asking for personal or financial information, officials warned Tueday.

Actual court employees never demand such information over the phone, said spokesman Carl Schulhof of Santa Clara Superior Court.

Anyone who receives such a call should ask for the person’s name, phone number and case number, an then report the call to the court at 408-882-2700.

The Sheriff’s Office is not currently investigating the matter because none of the individuals who received the calls wanted to file a report, and said sheriff’s Sgt. Jose Cardoza. But he also stressed that under no circumstances should anyone give a caller personal information.
