A San Jose man was killed early Monday morning after a SUV rolled over on the ramp from northbound 101 to Capitol Expressway. This was the third death on the South Bay roads during the holiday weekend. The coroner’s office identified the man as Victor Gomez-Mendoza, age 30. He was one of eight people in the Chevrolet Trailblazer – at least two of whom were not wearing seatbelts – when it flipped on the off-ramp at about 4:45 a.m., according to the CHP.

The driver of the Trailblazer hit a raised curb while negotiating the curve on the wet roadway and rolled the SUV. Gomez-Mendoza was sitting in the back seat before he was thrown from the vehicle. A woman was also ejected and was taken to the hospital with major injuries. A third woman complained of pain and was taken to the hospital. Others in the vehicle were treated at the scene. The CHP does not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. The driver was not cited or arrested.
